Slumdog Millionaire -bagged Oscars







India achieved Oscar glory in February when Danny Boyle's movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' based in Mumbai, bagged 8 Oscars at the 81st Academy Awards. Music maestro A R Rahman won two Oscars for 'Jai Ho', while Pookutty bagged an Oscar for best sound mixing.

Nobel Prize for Venkatraman Ramakrishnan 



Indians across the world rejoiced when Indian born scientist Venkatraman Ramakrishnan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his pioneering research on ribosome, a cellular machine that makes proteins.He is a senior scientist at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge

.Chandrayan - traced the presence of water molecules on the moon's surface



It was a giant leap for India's space programme and one of the biggest scientific discoveries of the 21st century when the country's first unmanned lunar probe, Chandrayaan I, traced the presence of water molecules on the moon's surface, that could pave the way for growing vegetation there in the future.

Team India rose to the No.1 position in ICC Test 



2009 will be fondly recalled as the year of India's ascent to the pinnacle of Test cricket, Team India rose to the No.1 position in ICC Test rankings, for the first time ever in the history of cricket, by beating Sri Lanka 2-0 in a Test series.

Along with other main stories hit the news stand  were attacks on indians in a Australia, Swine Flu attack in india, the multi-crore scam in a Indian based company Satyam , the Mumbai terror attacks shook India and stunned the world, death of two known Kannadigas Dr.C.Ashwath, well known singer and a famous actor Dr.Vishnuvardhan



Although other stories and persons were in news in  2009 this one post in this blog is not enough.India has achieved a lot and also for some time it is in news for some wrong reasons.Change is life.We have to accept it
