ನಾನು ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯನವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿದ್ದರೂ , ಬೆಳೆದಂತೆ ಇವರ ಸಾಧನೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದು ಬೆರಗುಗೊಂಡೆ .

ಇತ್ತೀಚೆ ಜನವರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಕ್ಷಗುಂಡಮ್ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು (ಲೇಖಕ: ವಿ ಎಸ್.ನಾರಾಯಣರಾವ್ ), ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಂಡೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸುವ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ನನ್ನದಾಯ್ತು .

ಅಯ್ಯನವರ ಸಾಧನೆಯು ನಮ್ಮ ಇಂದಿನ ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಾಚಾರ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿರುವ , ದೇಶಾಭಿಮಾನ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ದಿನಗಳಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಮಾದರಿ ..

ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯನವರು ಜನಿಸಿದ್ದು ೧೮೬೦ ರ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ ತಿಂಗಳ ೨೭ ರಂದು , ಕೋಲಾರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಚಿಕ್ಕಬಳ್ಳಾಪುರ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಮುದ್ದೇನಹಳ್ಳಿ ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಕಣಿವೆನಾರಾಯಣಪುರ ಹೋಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ .

ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯನವರು ೧೫ನೆಯ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನವರಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ತಂದೆ ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡರು . ತಾಯಿಯ ಸಹೋದರ ರಾಮಯ್ಯ ನವರ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವಂತ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮದಿಂದ ೧೮೮೧ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿವಿಲ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದರು .

ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯ ನವರು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾನ್ವಿತ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ದಕ್ಷ ಆಡಳಿತಗಾರರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು . ನೀರಾವರಿ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾರ್ಯಗತಗೊಳಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರದು ಎತ್ತಿದ ಕೈ . ಅವರ ಕುಶಲತೆ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವಾಗಿ ನೀರಾವರಿ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳು , ಬೃಹತ್ ಜಲಾಶಯಗಳು , ರೈಲು ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳು , ಕಾರ್ಖಾನೆಗಳು , ಕೈಗೊರಿಕೊದ್ಯಮಗಳು , ಮೈಸೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಘ ಸಂಸ್ಥಗಳು ಭಾರತದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಚಿರಸ್ಥಾಯಿಯಾಗಿ ಉಳಿದಿದೆ . ಪ್ರತಿಭಾನ್ವಿತ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಒಬ್ಬರು , ದಕ್ಷ ಆಡಳಿತಗಾರರೂ ಆಗಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯನವರು ಸಾಕ್ಷ್ಯ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ .

ಮಹಾತ್ಮ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರ ಸಮಕಾಲೀನ ರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಇವರ ಮತ್ತು ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರ ಕೆಲವು ವಿಚಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಿನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳಿದ್ದರೂ ಇವರಿಬ್ಬರ ಗುರಿ ದೇಶ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಒಂದೇ ಆಗಿತ್ತು .!

ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯನವರು ನಮ್ಮ ಭಾರತ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿರುವ ಸೇವೆ ಅಪಾರ .

ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಸಿಪಾಯಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ೧೯೧೨ - ೧೯೧೯ ರವರೆಗೆ ಮೈಸೂರು ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನದ ದಿವಾನರಾಗಿದ್ದರು .
ಇವರ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿ ೧೯೫೫ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಟಿತ ಭಾರತ ರತ್ನ ಇವರನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂತು .

ಅವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತ ಹೋದಂತೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಜೀವಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಸಾಧಿಸಬಹುದೇ ಎಂದು ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯಾಗುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ..

H. Narasimhaiah (ಡಾ. ಹೆಚ್.ನರಸಿಂಹಯ್ಯ) physicist, educator, freedom fighter and rationalist

Born in Hossur on 6th June 1921 (೬ನೆ ಜೂನ್ ೧೯೨೧ ) , a village near Gauribidanur in Karnataka, India. His parents were poor, illiterate and belonged to a disadvantaged caste. Upon completion of elementary education, he left for Bangalore where he joined the National High School, Basavanagudi, in 1935. He received his B.Sc.(Honors) and Master's degree in Physics with first class from Central College of Bangalore (1946). The same year Narasimhaiah started his academic career as a lecturer in National College, Bangalore.

He taught from 1946 until 1957 when he proceeded to Columbus, Ohio to get his PhD degree in Nuclear physics from Ohio State University(1960). ನರಸಿಂಹಯ್ಯ ,ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದ ನಾಲ್ಕೂ ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿನಿತ್ಯ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ, ಮಧ್ಯಾನ ತಿಂದದ್ದು ಬರಿ ಉಪ್ಪಿಟ್ಟು. ಒಂದೆಡೆ ಆವರೆ ಹೇಳುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ವಿಶ್ವ ದಾಖಲೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಆವರೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ . During 1961-72 he led National College, Basavanagudi, Bangalore, as its principal. During 1967-68, as a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Narasimhaiah taught as a Visiting Professor at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. In 1962, he founded the Bangalore Science Forum, which conducts a weekly series of public lectures on science topics.

He published a collection of essays entitled "Tereda Mana" (”ತೆರೆದ ಮನ’) (Open Mind) and an auto-biography named "Horaatada Haadi" (’ಹೋರಾಟದ ಹಾದಿ’), (The Path of Struggle) which were awarded sahitya academy book prizes

" I got an opportunity to see him & take an autograph around 6-7 years ago. I saw him in Bangalore.Ravindra kalakshetra ". (ರವಿಂದ್ರ ಕಲಾಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ) .

He stayed in a hostel with mat & couple of old trunks although he was in big post. He was unmarried.When some body asked abouth this ,he said with humor : Oh I forgot to get marry..

Narasimhaiah had interactions with Mahatma Gandhi and translated Mahatma Gandhi’s Hindi speech into Kannada, when the latter visited the National High School.

During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, he constituted and chaired The Committee to Investigate Miracles and Other Verifiable Superstitions, to scientifically investigate claims of miracles and paranormal phenomena. The committee challenged the claims of Sathya Sai Baba, one of the most prominent godmen of India, who said that he could materialize holy ash and gold chain from nothing. A public controversy ensued, causing some of the godman's followers to desert him.

As the Vice-Chancellor of the Bangalore University from 1973–77 (೧೯೭೩-೭೭) , he introduced psychology, social work, drama, music and dance as subjects. He went on to serve the State Legislative Assembly; and in 1984 (೧೯೮೪) , received the Padma Bhushan from the Indian Government. At the time of his death on January 31, 2005 * (ಜನವರಿ ೩೧ ೨೦೦೫) , Dr. Narasimhaiah was the President of the National Education Society.

Last week I had been to Shivanasamudra,Ranganatittu,Balamuri along with colleagues and friends on saturday and sunday respectively.

Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary ( ರಂಗನತಿಟ್ಟು ಪಕ್ಷಿಧಾಮ) also known as Paksi Kashi of Karnataka is a Bird Sanctuary in the Mandya district. It is a very small sanctuary, being only 67 km². in area, and comprises six islets on the banks of the Kaveri water. Ranganthittu is located three kilometers away from the historic town of Srirangapattana and 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) north of Mysore.

1.The Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society scam in Mumbai, the commercial capital of the country..

Out of 104 units only three have been actually given to families of Kargil war heroes ..

Maharashtra chief minister had to quit.

2.The 2G spectrum scam : 122 telecom licenses were issued without auction

Telecom minister Raja had to resign resign because of the scam. Investigation is under progress

3.Common wealth games(CWG) Scam :

Roofs of stadiums and a overbridge collapsed due to inferior material and bad construction. If that wasn't enough, imagine they rented a liquid soap dispenser for Rs 187 from one firm and bought the same from another for Rs 9,379!

4.The Karnataka land scam :

The Karnataka land scam is all about keeping it in the family. Chief Minister B S Yedyurappa is accused of denotifying prime land in and around Bengaluru and then allotting it to his sons, relatives, juniors and colleagues for 1/10th their value.

Inspite of all these scams of crores of rupees, still there is news of relief.

Indian athletes did very well in common wealth games in Delhi & Asian games held in China.

Visit to Bangalore book festival 2010

I got an opportunity to visit to "Bangalore Book festival 2010"(ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪುಸ್ತಕೋತ್ಸವ ೨೦೧೦) on last saturday i.e.13th Nov.It is being held in Bangalore Palace grounds.

This is one of the third largest Book festival in India. Other two are of Delhi and Kolkata.

I went simply to have a look & had no intention of buying books as I went out from my home as I had some other works..Compared to last year this year entrance itself was not good..I had to ask couple of people to find out the entrance itself althought its a largest book fair in Karnataka.

But as we know "Taste of Coffe is more important than a glass"..i.e. ಸತ್ವ ಮುಖ್ಯ, ಹೊರನೋಟ ಅಲ್ಲ .
I could not complete to view all stalls itself..For Kannada itself there were more than 100 stalls were there.Imagine how many stalls might have been set up for different languages. Entrance fee was Rs20.For students it was free..!

I met one of my old friend who was working as a branch manager in one of the public sector bank, who is now serving in one of the organization after VRS. He took me to lunch..We recalled our olden days, about other old colleagues who were working with us & discussed various topics.He made an interesting point: In European countries News papers are under threat as most of them are reading news on Mobile screen itself.

One thing was clear : ಪುಸ್ತಕಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾವಿಲ್ಲ , Books never die.

When I came out I had purchased more than 10 books to my surprise.

Children’s day (ಮಕ್ಕಳ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆ ) is special day for the children. Universally, Children’s Day is celebrated on 20th November, every year.

But in India it is celebrated on 14th November, because the date marks the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter and independent India’s first Prime Minister – Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru.

As a tribute to Nehru and his love for children, Children’s Day is celebrated on his birth date.

This day reminds to each and every one of us, to renew our commitment to the welfare of children and teach them to live by their Chacha Nehru’s quality and dream.

Kannada Rajyotsava (Kannada: ಕನ್ನಡ ರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವ) or the Karnataka Formation Day (literally : "Birth of the Kannada State") is celebrated on 1 November every year. This was the day in 1956 when all the Kannada speaking regions of south India were merged to form the state of Karnataka.

On this day of November first in 1956 (೧೯೫೬) Mysore state, comprising most of the area of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore, was merged with the Kannada speaking areas of the Bombay and Madras presidencies, as also of the principality of Hyderabad, to create a unified Kannada-speaking subnational entity. The newly unified state initially retained the name "Mysore", which was that of the erstwhile princely state which formed the core of the new entity. .....

Kannada is one of the major Dravidian languages of India, spoken predominantly in the southern state of Karnataka. It is the 27th (೨೭ ನೆಯ )most spoken language in the world, with native speakers called Kannadigas. It is one of the Official languages of India and the official and administrative language of the state of Karnataka.

Brief History About Kannada Rajyotsava :

The state of Mysore was created taking into fold various parts of the region, which were ruled by kings. Several districts in, now called North Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka were dissolved in the new state. The new state was named after Mysore, which by itself was a princely state.

People of North and Hyderabad area did not accept the name Mysore. people of this region were demanding a change in the name. After prolonged debate the name of the state was changed to Karnataka on November 1, 1973. ( ನವೆಂಬರ್ ೧ , ೧೯೭೩ )

*Kannada Writers has won 7 (೭ ) Jnana peetha (ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪೀಠ) awards : ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪೀಠ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಬರಹ ಗಾರರು : ಕುವೆಂಪು,ಬೇಂದ್ರೆ, ಶಿವರಾಮ ಕಾರಂತ್, ಮಾಸ್ತಿ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ ಅಯ್ಯಂಗಾರ್ ,ವಿ ಕೃ ಗೋಕಾಕ್, ಯು. ಆರ್ .ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿ , ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಕಾರ್ನಾಡ್. (The Jnana peetha Award is the highest literary award in India)

Amongst the South Indian Languages, there is written data available for Tamil, Kannada and Telugu languages. In Kannada, the first shaashana is the 450 A.D.(೪೫೦ ) Halmidi shaashana.(ಹಲ್ಮಿಡಿ ಶಾಸನ ) Ancient books like vaddarahane (ವಡ್ಡಾರಾಧನೆ) 800 A.D.(೮೦೦) , Kaviraja Marga (ಕವಿರಾಜ ಮಾರ್ಗ) 850(೮೫೦ ) are also available.

Located in the southern part of India, Karnataka is one of the most significant states and also the hub of software industry in the country.Now karnatka is also known for health tourism and education tourism where in we can get qualtiy health and quality education compared to other states.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕನ್ನಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏಷ್ಟು ಬರೆದರೂ ಕಡಿಮೆಯೇ .ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಲೆಕ್ಕವಿಲ್ಲದಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ತಾಣಗಳೂ ಇವೆ .

"ಒಂದು ನೋವಿನ ವಿಷಯ ಏನೆಂದರೆ ಬರೀ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು , ಮೈಸೂರು ಅಥವಾ ಮುಖ್ಯ ನಗರಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಬೆಳೆದರೆ ಸಾಕಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ , ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬೆಳೆಯಬೇಕು .ಮೈಸೂರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ, ಉತ್ತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ,ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಭೇದ ಭಾವ ಇರಬಾರದು.ಭೇದ ಭಾವ ಉಂಟಾದರೆ ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬಂದ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಬರಬಹುದು." ಇದರ ಕಡೆ ಸಂಭಂದಪಟ್ಟವರು ಗಮನ ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು .

ಕನ್ನಡ ರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ನವೆಂಬರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಆಚರಿಸದೆ ಇಡೀ ವರ್ಷವೆಲ್ಲ ನಮ್ಮ ದಿನನಿತ್ಯದ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧ್ಯವೋ ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಆಚರಿಸೋಣ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ದಿನಪತ್ರಿಕೆ - ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಓದುವುದು ,ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು , ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲೇ ವ್ಯವಹರಿಸುವುದು , ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ ವಾಹನಗಳಿಗೆ ಬರಸುವುದು , ನಮ್ಮ ಅಂಗಡಿ -ಕಚೇರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲೂ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಬರೆಸುವುದು , ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಟಕ , ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು ...................

ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ,ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಗಾಗಿ ದುಡಿದವರು ಮಡಿದವರು ಬಹಳ ಮಂದಿ. ಬನ್ನಿ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲ ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಲೆಕೊಡೋಣ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ,ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಯಾದ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನ ಇಂದಿನ ಪರಭಾಷೆಯ ಹಾವಳಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸೋಣ. ನಾವೂ ಬೆಳೆಯೋಣ ನಮ್ಮವರನ್ನೂ ಬೆಳೆಸೋಣ ..

The Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport event which is held every four years and features competitions involving thousands of elite athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
This sports competition is held between countries which are ruled by British Empire.

The Games are scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October 2010. The games will be the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in India.

It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games is held in India.

In the days running up to the Games, the event has been hit by a host of issues,allegations of widespread corruption,flood, infrastructural compromise, preparation delays.

Dr. Sree Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji (born April 1, 1907) ಶ್ರೀ ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ is the present head of Sree Siddaganga Mutt (ಸಿದ್ದಗಂಗಾ ಮಠ) in Tumkur , South India and founder of the Sree Siddaganga Education Society.Swamiji was born in Veerapura near Magadi Taluk.

Siddaganga mutt has started around more than 615 years ago by Shree Gosala Siddeshwara.It is situated in Bangalore -Pune highway , 66 KMs from Bangalore.

He is proficient in Kannada, English and Sanskrit. He has established educational institutions which offer a courses in traditional learning of Sanskrit as well as modern science and technology. He is widely respected for his philanthropic work by all communities .

In recognition of his humanitarian work, Sree Swamiji was conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Literature by Karnatak University in 1965.

"He continues his humanitarian work in spite of his advanced age of 103". ಯುವಕರೂ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಪಡುವಂತೆ ಈ ೧೦೩ ರ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾದುತ್ತ್ತಿದ್ದು ಸಮಾಜದ ಏಳಿಗೆಯ ಜೊತೆಗೆ , ಸಮಾಜ ದಾರಿ ತಪ್ಪಿದಾಗ ತಿದ್ದಿ ಸರಿಯಾದ ದಾರಿಗೆ ತರಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Although I have visited Siddaganga mutt 3-4 times I could not take his darshan..But I was lucky on July 29th..I could take his Darshan, took his autograph , photo and video as well in Bangalore in a function ..!

Visit to Shivaganga

Got an opportunity to visit Shivaganga yesterday by trekking.

I visted along with my Son Sujay , Wife Shobha, Sister Nandu and Anju.

We left Bangalore late (due to my office timings).Although we did not get direct bus to Shivaganga, from Majestic we reached Dobaspet .From there we took another bus to Shivaganaga. Even lot of autos are also available.

When we reached there I thought I did a wrong decision as it was late and it was around 3:30 PM already. When we started climbing Shivaganga hill ,within no time I felt tired. Shobha told you can carry on I will stay here only.I thought to give company to her there only...! But she started to climb again .I followed her.

About 60 Kms from Bangalore on Tumkur road one has to take a diversion at Dobbaspete and ride for another 6 Kms to reach the base of the tallest(supposedly) peak in Bangalore district, Shivganga. There are lots private buses plying between B`lore and Shivganga. Its also called Dakshin Kashi as it is believed that Shiva-Parvathi vivaaha took place here too. Halfway through the trek one comes across a cave temple of lord shiva. There is a hole in the cave behind the sanctum sanctorium, of diameter such that only one's hand can go in. It is believed on dipping the hand in this hole if one can reach water inside one is blessed.

A further way up is Paataal Ganga, a water pond in a cave, supposed to be the ganges river water which had come here to witness the marraige of Shiva and Parvathi.

On top of the mountain there is another small temple of Lord Shiva and VeeraBhadra.

One encounters Nandi's sculpted in all sizes as one treks to the top. This place is a popular pilgrimage place and the localites do the trek bare feet. One can see a huge white bull sculpted half way up.

A Day with APJ Abdul kalam

I got an opportunity to see and listen to "Missile man of India" APJ Abdul Kalam On Thursday 29th July.

Couple of days back when my father Shri Shivanandaiah, told me that APJ (Abdul Kalam) is coming to Blore on 29th July ,I felt it is a right opportunity to meet , see and listen to him..a person who is known as Missile man of India & who stepped down & worked and later known as a "peoples president".

On that day, function was suppose to start at 4 PM , but rain started pouring in heavily.But my enthu to meet him did not diverted my mind.Thanks to delay in flight kalam came 1 hour late.I got an opportunity to see him from very near.Took many of his photographs Listened to him speech from a very short distance.

Although I could not take autogrpah from him, I told my younger brother Avi, to take my photograph with him as there was a heavy rush and crowd was there.I was lucky here.

Below are few of his thoughts and ideas on that day in his speech:

1.Have a aim in life and work hard towards realizing goals.Having a small aim in life is a crime.We need to work with integrity.Its important achieve success with integrity, he said.

2.Dr.Kalam emphasized that each individual should plant 10 saplings to achieve a target of having 10 billion new trees by 2015.Encouraging youngsters to inculcate the habit of reading.Kalam advised studnets & paents to have home library to start with at least 10 books.

3.Kalam advised although corruption has spread across nation , we can start removing from root from home itself. He told if we are doing injustice or corruption in home and if we are caught by children that is the biggest insult any one can get .

By his speech no one can even imagine that he is 79 years old. We can see a bright future in his speech and a dream for India and a mankind.

Mobile has become part of our life in recent times.

I have big friends circle. I get different kind of sms on my mobile.

SMS means "Short message service". Mainly it is used in short message to people.

Couple of days back when I was thinking to write a new post a thought strike in my mind to write post on sms only.
I have retained few sms since years as I feel they are close to reality, lessons for life..
Usually v use short cuts , symbols in sms.
Few service providers have offered sms package itslef to attract young generation & those who are eager to send messages.

Some time we also get ads of different products or comapnies which irritates us as they get our contact numbers through friends or diferent mobile provides sells our mobile and contact details to differnt companies without our knowledge to make money.

Visit to Pattadakal,badami ,koodalasangama and almatti

Last week I had been to Ilkal where my mama(Mothers brother) is staying there.

I had gone along with my family .From Ilkal we had been to Pattadakal, Badami, Koodalasangama, Alamatti dam. We can cover and view all these places in one day itself .

Pattadakal (ಪಟ್ಟದಕಲ್) is a town lies on the banks of the Malaprabha River in Bagalkot district of North Karnataka region. It is 22 km from Badami and about 10 km from Aihole. The group of 8th century monuments in Pattadakal are the culmination of the earliest experiments in the vesara style of Hindu temple architecture. They were designated a World Heritage Site in 1987.

Badami (ಬಾದಾಮಿ),formerly known as Vatapi, is a taluk in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, India. It was the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD. It is famous for rock cut and other structural temples.

One interesting fact is that whole badami temple structure is carved in a very huge single stone..!
Its really amzing .

Kudala sangama (ಕೂಡಲ ಸಂಗಮ ) in India is an one of the important center of pilgrimage. It is located about 15 km from the Almatti Dam in Bagalkot district of Karnataka state. The Krishna river and Ghataprabha river merge here.The Aikya Mantapa or the holy Samādhi of Basavanna,is situated here.

One the way we also visted Banashanakari Amma Temple or Banashankari temple (ಬನಶಂಕರಿ)is a Hindu shrine located at Cholachagudd near Badami, in Bagalkot district,

The original temple was built by the 7th century Kalyani Chalukya kings, who worshipped goddess Banashankari as their tutelary deity. The temple celebrates its annual festival called Banashankari jatre.

On the way back we visited Almatti (ಅಲಮಟ್ಟಿ ) where there is huge dam, park and musical fountain .

Wife Shobha, Son sujay we all enjoyed the trip very much. Pls donot miss the opportunity to visit these place if you happend to visit to north karnataka.

A visit to Heritage center and aerospace museum, Bangalore

I visited HAL's Heritage center and aerospace museum, Bangalore recently with family members.

HAL Heritage Center and Aerospace Museum, situated on the Airport Road at Bangalore, is one of the largest public aviation museum in the country

Museum is open to public on all days from 9AM -5PM.

We can visit get a detail idea and knowledge on the origin, manufacuring, working prinicple,developments .....of heliocpters and flights in this museum.

A Trip to Siddhara betta

On March 7th I had been to Siddhara betta(hill) Trip (trekking). I Visited siddhara betta along with my close friends and old room mates. We have been friends since 2001.Now most of us are married. Remaining couple of bachelors are following our foot steps and will join married's club shortly .!

Siddhara betta(Hill) is near Tumkur .Its around 3 hours journey from Bangalore.

It is Sacred Place where 9000 siddaru(Holy spritual men) made meditation and worship of Lord Shiva, They got Mooksha(Freedom) from this Eternal world .Here is famous temple suituated at the Top of the Hill. It is very difficult to Climb this rock Cultured beautiful temple.

A rocky hill with temple and caves at the top are the attractions here. Though the major crowd which visits is the one of pilgrims. This place also interests trekkers and other nature lovers. Cave exploration is a enjoyable experience.

ಕನ್ನಡದ ಖ್ಯಾತ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಹಿತಿ. ಇವರ "ಹೊಸತು
ಹೊಸತು" ಎಂಬ ಕೃತಿಗೆ ೧೯೯೭ರ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ದೊರಕಿದೆ. ಚಿದಾನಂದಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹಿರೋಕೋಗಲೂರು ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ೧೯೩೧ರ ಮೇ ೧೦ ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಎಮ್.ಎ. ಪದವಿ ಹಾಗು ಪಿ.ಎಚ್.ಡಿ ಪದವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಿ ಮೊದಲು ಮೈಸೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಹಿಡಿದವರು.

ನಂತರ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಸ್ವಇಚ್ಛೆಯಿಂದ ನಿವೃತ್ತರಾದರು. ಕೆಲ ಕಾಲ ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ಚಿಕಾಗೊ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಚಿದಾನಂದಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರು ಅನೇಕ ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಇಂತಿವೆ: ಕನ್ನಡ ಶಾಸನಗಳ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ಶೂನ್ಯಸಂಪಾದನೆಯನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು, ಭಾಷಾವಿಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮೂಲತತ್ವಗಳು, ಸಂಶೋಧನ ತರಂಗ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ-ನಮ್ಮ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ, ಪೂರ್ಣ ಸೂರ್ಯಗ್ರಹಣ, ವೀರಗಲ್ಲುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಸ್ತಿಕಲ್ಲುಗಳು, ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ. "ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ-ನಮ್ಮ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ" ಈ ಗ್ರಂಥವು ಒಂಬತ್ತು ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾದವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಚಿದಾನಂದಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗು ಇನ್ನೂರೈವತ್ತಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಪ್ರಬಂಧಗಳನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರ ಆರು ಕೃತಿಗಳು ಬಹುಮಾನಿತವಾಗಿವೆ. ಐವತ್ತಕ್ಕು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹಾಗು ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ವಿಚಾರಗೋಷ್ಠಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ನಿಘಂಟು ಸಂಪಾದಕ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿಯೂ ಸಹ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಚಳುವಳಿ ಅಥವಾ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋರಾಟಕ್ಕಿಳಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಹಾಗು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದಾಕ್ಷಿಣ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

೨ . ಕೆ.ವಿ.ಸುಬ್ಬಣ್ಣ (K.V.Subbanna) :

ಕೆ.ವಿ.ಸುಬ್ಬಣ್ಣನವರ ಹುಟ್ಟೂರು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಸಾಗರ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಹೆಗ್ಗೋಡು. ೧೯೩೨ ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ ೨೦ ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದ ಇವರು ಮುಂದೆ ಹೆಗ್ಗೋಡಿನಂತಹ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದುಕೊಂಡೇ ನೀಲಕಂಠೇಶ್ವರ ನಾಟ್ಯಸೇವಾ ಸಂಘ (ನೀನಾಸಂ) ರಂಗ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದರು. ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಗೆ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಸ್ಥಾನ, ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಂದುಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ನೀನಾಸಂ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ನಡೆಸುವ ತಿರುಗಾಟ ಇಂದು ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಒಂದು ಅವಿಭಾಜ್ಯ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಾಹಿತಿಯೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಅನೇಕ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ೨೦೦೫ ಜುಲೈ ೧೬ ರಂದು ಹೃದಯಾಘಾತದಿಂದ ನಿಧನರಾದರು. ಅಕ್ಷರ ಪ್ರಕಾಶನವನ್ನು ಕೆ.ವಿ.ಸುಬ್ಬಣ್ಣನವರು ಹೆಗ್ಗೋಡುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು.

೩ . ದೊಡ್ಡರಂಗೇಗೌಡ (Doddarange Gowda)

ದೊಡ್ಡರಂಗೇಗೌಡ - ಕನ್ನಡದ ಕವಿಗಳಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬರು ಮತ್ತು ಚಿತ್ರಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬರು.

ತುಮಕೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕುರುಬರಹಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ೧೯೪೫ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಿಂದ ಪದವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದ ಇವರು, ನಂತರ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನವೋದಯ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ಇವರ ಈ ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಪ್ರಬಂಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಪಿಹೆಚ್‍ಡಿ(ಡಾಕ್ಟರೇಟ್) ಪದವಿ ದೊರಕಿತು.

೧೯೭೨ರಿಂದ ೨೦೦೪ರವರೆಗೂ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆ ಬಳಿ ಇರುವ ಎಸ್.ಎಲ್.ಎನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರಾಗಿ, ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿ, ಪ್ರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಶೇಷಾದ್ರಿಪುರಂ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ ಗಾಯಕಿಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿ.ಕೆ.ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾ ಒಬ್ಬರು.ಸಂಗೀತದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಕಾರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಹಾಡಿರುವ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆ ಇವರದು.ಬಿ.ಕೆ.ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ಜುಲೈ ೧,೧೯೪೬ ರಂದು ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಬಿಳಿಲುಕೊಪ್ಪ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ.ತಂದೆ ಪಟೇಲ್ ಕೃಷ್ಣಯ್ಯ,ತಾಯಿ ಗಂಗಮ್ಮ.ಓದಿದ್ದು ಬಿಎಸ್‌ಸಿ,ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದ ಸಹ್ಯಾದ್ರಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ.ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ರೇಡಿಯೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಗೀತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಸಂಗೀತಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಶುರು.ಜಾನಪದಗೀತೆ,ಭಕ್ತಿಗೀತೆ,ಭಾವಗೀತೆ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕುವೆಂಪು,ದ.ರಾ.ಬೇಂದ್ರೆ,ಜಿ.ಎಸ್.ಶಿವರುದ್ರಪ್ಪ...ಮೊದಲಾದ ಕವಿಗಳ ಕವಿತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಆಕಾಶವಾಣಿ,ದೂರದರ್ಶನ,ಧ್ವನಿಸುರುಳಿ,ಸಿ.ಡಿ.ಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಹಾಡಿದರು.ದೇಶ-ವಿದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಕನ್ನಡಕೂಟಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಸುಗಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಸಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

೫.ಮೈಸೂರು ಅನಂತಸ್ವಾಮಿ (Mysore Anantaswamy) :

ಅನಂತಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಸಂಗೀತಗಾರ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ರಾಮರಾವ್ರವರ ಮನೆತನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ.ತಂದೆ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಯರು,ತಾಯಿ ಕಮಲಮ್ಮ.ಬಾಲ್ಯದಿಂದಲೇ ಸುಗಮ ಸಂಗೀತದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಾರ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ.ಆ ಕಾಲದ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಜಾನಪದ ಸಂಗೀತ ಹಾಡುಗಾರ ಪಿ.ಕಾಳಿಂಗರಾವ್‌ರವರ ಕಂಪೆನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಕಾಲ ಮ್ಯಾಂಡೋಲಿನ್ ವಾದಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಸುಗಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿರಿಸಿದ ಇವರು ಮತ್ತೆ ಹಿಂದೆ ತಿರುಗಿ ನೋಡಲಿಲ್ಲ.ಅನೇಕ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ಸಂಯೋಜಕರಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರು.ನಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾವೇ ಸಂಗೀತ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು.ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕವಿಗಳ ಕವನಗಳಿಗೆ ಧ್ವನಿಯಾದರು.ಕನ್ನಡ ಕವಿಗಳ ಭಾವಗೀತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯಗೊಳಿಸಲು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವೇ ಮುಡಿಪಾಗಿರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.ಈ ಕವನಗಳನ್ನು ಧ್ವನಿಸುರುಳಿಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಮನೆ-ಮನಗಳಿಗೂ ತಲುಪಿಸಿ,ಆ ಮೂಲಕ ಹೊಸಯುಗಕ್ಕೆ ನಾಂದಿ ಹಾಡಿದರು.ಇವರು ಸಂಯೋಜನೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ರಾಗಗಳು ಆಯಾ ಗೀತೆಗಳ ಭಾವಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಸೂಕ್ತವಾಗಿದ್ದು ,ಅವುಗಳ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಮರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಹೊರಚೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತವೆ. ಇವರ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ ಮತ್ತು ಗಾಯನದ ಸುಮಾರು ೨೬ ಧ್ವನಿಸುರುಳಿಗಳು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಗಿವೆ.

೬ . ಸು.ರಂ. ಎಕ್ಕುಂಡಿ (S.R.Lakkundi)

ಕನ್ನಡದ ಖ್ಯಾತ ಕವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಹಿತಿ.

ಇವರ ಪೂರ್ಣ ಹೆಸರು ಸುಬ್ಬಣ್ಣ ರಂಗಣ್ಣ ಎಕ್ಕುಂಡಿ. ಇವರು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ೧೯೨೩ ಜನವರಿ ೨೦ರಂದು, ಹಾವೇರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ರಾಣಿಬೆನ್ನೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ. ೧೯೪೪ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿ.ಎ.(ಆನರ್ಸ್) ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದ ಎಕ್ಕುಂಡಿಯವರು ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಬಂಕಿಕೊಡ್ಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾದರು. ೩೫ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಸೇವೆಯ ನಂತರ ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೆ ಮುಖ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾದರು.

ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರ

"ಲೆನಿನ್ನರ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ" ಎನ್ನುವ ಕೃತಿಗೆ ೧೯೭೦ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋವಿಯತ್ ಲ್ಯಾಂಡಿನ ನೆಹರು ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರ ದೊರೆತಿದೆ.
"ಮತ್ಸ್ಯಗಂಧಿ" ಕವನ ಸಂಕಲನಕ್ಕೆ ೧೯೭೫ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಬಹುಮಾನ ದೊರೆತಿದೆ.
"ಬೆಳ್ಳಕ್ಕಿಗಳು" ಹಸ್ತಪ್ರತಿಗೆ ೧೯೮೨ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುದ್ದಣ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ ಕಾವ್ಯ ಬಹುಮಾನ ದೊರೆತಿದೆ.
"ಬಕುಲದ ಹೂವುಗಳು" ಎಂಬ ಕೃತಿಗೆ ೧೯೯೨ರ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ದೊರಕಿದೆ.

೬ . ಬಿ.ಸಿ.ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರ ಶರ್ಮ (B.C.Ramachandra sharma)

ಬಿ.ಸಿ.ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರ ಶರ್ಮ - ಕನ್ನಡದ ಖ್ಯಾತ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಹಿತಿ. ಇವರು ೧೯೨೫ ನವಂಬರ೨೮ರಂದು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ತಂದೆ ಬೋಗಾದಿ ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರಶರ್ಮ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಮೈಸೂರು‍ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡಿದ ಇವರು ಲಂಡನ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಿಂದ ಮನೋವಿಜ್ಞಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿಎಚ್.ಡಿ. ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಏಳು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಇಂಗ್ಲಂಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಎಂಟು ವರ್ಷ ಝಾಂಬಿಯಾ ಹಾಗು ಯುನೆಸ್ಕೊದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರ

    * ಇವರ "ಸಪ್ತಪದಿ" ಎಂಬ ಕೃತಿಗೆ ೧೯೯೮ರ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ದೊರಕಿದೆ.

ಕುವೆಂಪುರವರು ಬರೆದ ಈ ಕೃತಿಯು ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಅತ್ಯಮೂಲ್ಯ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು, ಈ ಕೃತಿ. ಈ ಕೃತಿ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಮೊದಲ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಮಹಾಕಾವ್ಯ; ಸರಳರಗಳೆಯನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊತ್ತಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

೨ .ದ.ರಾ .ಬೇಂದ್ರೆ -ನಾಕುತಂತಿ (Naku Thanthi) (Four Strings) -೧೯೭೩ (1973)

Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre ದತ್ತಾತ್ರೇಯ ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರ ಬೇಂದ್ರೆ (January 31, 1896 - 21 October 1981) was amongst the most famous of kannada poets of the navodaya period Praised as varakavi, literally 'gifted poet'. ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪಡೆದ ೨ ನೆಯ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ .ಅವರು ಅಂಬಿಕಾತನಯದತ್ತ ಅನ್ನುವ ಹೆಸರಿಂದ ಕೂಡ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. .ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪದ್ಮ ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಕೂಡ ದೊರಕಿತ್ತು .

೩. ಕೆ .ಶಿವರಾಮ ಕಾರಂತ (ಮೂಕಜ್ಜಿಯ ಕನಸುಗಳು ) (Mookajjis dreams) - ೧೯೭೭ -(1977)

Kota Shivaram Karanth (October 10, 1902 - December 9, 1997) was a major Kannada writer, social activist, environmentalist, Yakshagana artist, film maker and thinker. He was described as the "Rabindranath Tagore of Modern India who has been finest novelist-activist since independence" by Ramachandra Guha. ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪಡೆದ ೩ ನೆ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ .He is also been adjudged as one of the ten makers of india in last 60 years by CNN-IBN. ಪದ್ಮಭೂಷಣ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಬಂದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ತುರ್ತು ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಹೇರಿದ (ಇಂದಿರಾ ಗಾಂಧಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ) ಕಾರಣ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂತಿರಿಗಿಸಿದ ಧೀಮಂತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ.

೧೯೯೩ (1993) ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ ಊರಾದ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಂಘದಲ್ಲಿ ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಅವರಿಂದ ಹಸ್ತಾಕ್ಷರ ವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದೆ .ಇದು ನನ್ನ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯ ವೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುವೆ .

೪.ಮಾಸ್ತಿ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ ಅಯ್ಯಂಗಾರ್ (ಚಿಕ್ಕವೀರ ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ) ೧೯೮೩ (1983) :

Masthi Venkatesha Iyengar (June 6, 1891 - June 6, 1986) was a popular writer in Kannada language. ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪಡೆದವರಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯವರು . He was popularly referred to as ಮಾಸ್ತಿ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಆಸ್ತಿ which means Maasti is Kannada's Treasure. ಅವರು ಸಣ್ಣ ಕಥೆಗಳಿಂದಲೇ ಚಿರಪರಿಚಿತರು . He wrote under the pen name Srinivasa. He was honored with the title Rajasevasakta by then Maharaja of Mysore Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadeyar.

೫ .ವಿ. ಕೃ ಗೋಕಾಕ್ (Vinayaka Krishna Gokak) (ಭಾರತ ಸಿಂಧು ರಶ್ಮಿ ಗೆ ) ೧೯೯೦ (1990)

Vinayaka Krishna Gokak (1909-1992) was a major writer in Kannada language and a scholar of English and Kannada literatures. ೫ ನೆ ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ for his epic ಭಾರತ ಸಿಂಧು ರಶ್ಮಿ . Bharatha Sindhu Rashmi that deals with the vedic age is perhaps the longest epic written in any language in the 20th Century.

೬.ಯು .ಆರ್ .ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿ ೧೯೯೪ (೧೯೯೪) :

Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy (born December 21, 1932), is a contemporary writer and critic in the Kannada language and is considered as one of the pioneers of the Navya movement. He is well known among Indian authors.

ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪಡೆದ ೬ನೆ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ . ೧೯೯೮ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪದ್ಮ ಭೂಷಣ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಬಂದಿದೆ . ಯಾವಾಗಲು ಸುದ್ದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ , ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ವಿಷಯಗಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸುವ ಚಲನಶೀಲ ,ಬುದ್ದಿವಂತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ . ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ವಿವಾದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿ ಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

೩-೪ ವರ್ಷದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಇವರನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಪರಿಷತ್ ಕಚೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕಾರ್ಯ ಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದ್ದ್ದೆ . ಇವರು ಬಹಳ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಮನುಷ್ಯ .

೭. ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಕಾರ್ನಾಡ್ . (for his contributions to modern Indian drama") - ೧೯೯೮ (1998)

Girish Raghunath Karnad (born 19 May 1938) is a contemporary writer, playwright, actor and movie director in Kannada language. ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪಡೆದ ೭ನೆ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ.

For four decades Karnad has been composing plays, often using history and mythology to tackle contemporary issues.His plays has been directed by eminent directors like Ebrahim Alkazi, B. V. Karanth, Alyque Padamsee, Prasanna, Arvind Gaur, Satyadev Dubey, Vijaya Mehta, Shyamanand Jalan and Amal Allana. He is also active in the world of Indian cinema working as an actor, director, and screenwriter, earning numerous awards along the way. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಭಾರತ ಸರಕಾರದಿಂದ ಪದ್ಮ ಭೂಷಣ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಬಂದಿದೆ .

2. Balagangadharanatha Swamiji (ಬಾಲಗಂಗಾಧರನಾಥ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ ):

The Swami is the pontiff of Adichunchanagiri Mutt in Mandya district. 3. Arundhati Nag (ಅರುಂಧತಿ ನಾಗ್) :

Arundhati Nag is a well-known in the field of theatre and art in the country. She founded Ranga Shankara, the dream project of her late husband and actor, Shankar Nag. So far more than 2,000 shows of different plays have been staged in the theatre.

ಅಭಿನವ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಞಿ(1970),ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ (1988),Dr.ಗುಬ್ಬಿ ವೀರಣ್ಣ (2002) ,ಕೇಂದ್ರ ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗೀತ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ (2004) ಮುಂತಾದವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು .

ಆವ್ರು "ಗುಣಸಾಗರಿ ,"ಮುದುಕನ ಮದುವೆ ","ಪೊಲೀಸನ ಮಗಳು (Guiness Record ) " ಮುಂತಾದ ನಾಟಕಗಳಿಂದ ಮನೆ ಮಾತಾಗಿದ್ದರು .

30 ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಚಲನ ಚ್ತಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸಿದ್ದರು .ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಬುಲಿಂಗ ಲೀಲೆ ,ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಚೆನ್ನಮ್ಮ ,ಗಾಳಿ ಗೋಪುರ ,ಭಲೇ ಹುಡುಗ ,ಕೃಷ್ಣದೇವರಾಯ ,ಶರಪಂಜರ ,ಮುಕ್ತಿ ,ಕುಮಾರ ರಾಮ ,ರೈತನ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ,ತೇಜಸ್ವಿನಿ ,ನವಜೀವನ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದದ್ದು .

1950 ರಲ್ಲಿ 5 ವರ್ಷದ ಬಾಲಕಿಯಗಿದ್ದಾಗ "ಶಿವಯೋಗಿ ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮೇಶ್ವರ " ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಸಿದ್ದ ರಾಮೇಶ್ವರನ ಪಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಮಾಡಿದರು . ೨(2) ತರಗತಿಯ ವರೆಗೆ ಓದಿದ್ದ ,ಅವರ ಸಾಧನೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ನಾಟಕ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿತು .ಕಂಪನಿ ನಾಟಕಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಬ್ಸಿಡಿ ನೆರವು ,ಮಾಸಾಶನ , ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಪರವಾನಿಗೆಗೆ ಏಕ ಗವಾಕ್ಷಿ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದು ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನು ಬೆರಗು ಮಾಡುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿತ್ತು

ದೆಹಲಿ ,ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್ ,ಕೇರಳ ,ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ,ವಾರಣಾಸಿ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಅಮೆರಿಕ ,ಇಂಗ್ಲೆಂಡ್ನಲ್ಲೂ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ KBR Drama comapny ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಚಿರ ಸ್ಥಯಿಯಗಿಸಿದರು .ಅವರ ಮನೆಯ ಹಿರಿ ,ಕಿರಿಸದಸ್ಯರನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಹಾಕಿದರೆ 25 ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಸಿಗುತ್ತಾರೆ .

ಕಲಾವಿದರ ಬದುಕು ,ಬವಣೆ ಅರಿತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಚಿಂದೋಡಿ ಲೀಲ ಕಲಾವಿದರ ಮೇಲೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು .ಅವರನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು .

1994 ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಊರಾದ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವಿದ್ದಾಗ ಬಂದಾಗ ಅವರನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರಿಂದ ಹಸ್ತಾಕ್ಷರವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದು ಕೊಡಿದ್ದೆ .

ಇಂದು ಅವರ ಅಂತಿಮ ದರ್ಶವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಹೋದಾಗ ಅವರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಅವರು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ತಯಾರಾಗಿ ಮಲಗಿದವರಂತೆ ಗೋಚರಿಸಿದರು http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUS8uChmbIA .

Kannadiga,Cinematographer V K Murthy (87 years)has been chosen for the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2008.

Born in 1923 in Mysore, Murthy earned his diploma in cinematography from S J Polytechnic, Bangalore in its very first batch 1943-46.which he joined and after obtaining a diploma certificate in 1946, moved on to the then Bombay for internship in cinematography.Having spent nearly five decades in Mumbai, the ace cinematographer is now based in Bangalore.

The award is conferred annually by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to films. This is the first time that a cinematographer has been selected for this award.

Murthy is credited with providing some of Indian cinema's most breathtaking visual moments in classics like Guru Dutt's Kagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, Baazi, Jaal, Chaudavin Ka Chand, Pyasa, 12 O'Clock and Ziddi. In fact, he has worked in most of Guru Dutt's movies.
He also partnered for Pakeezah and Razia Sultan.

His working life spans four long decades, from his early collaboration with Guru Dutt IN the 1950s to his work in Shyam Benegal's mega-serial Bharat Ek Khoj and one of the most acclaimed Kannada movies titled Hoova Hannu in 1993.

He is a recipient of the IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award in Amsterdam in 2005.

Murthy will be the 56th recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. The President of India will confer the award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a Swarna Kamal and a shawl.

I got an opportunity to attend a function in Townhall in Bangalore on 2nd February wherte VK murthy was felicitated. I saw VK murthy from so near .I took his couple of photos and a viedo also .

V. K. Murthy , a one-time violinist and jailed freedom fighter, was Guru Dutt's regular cameraman on his movies. He provided some of Indian cinema's most breathtaking images in starkly contrasted black and white. He also shot India's first cinemascope (75mm) movie, Kaagaz Ke Phool. For his contribution to film industry, particularly Indian film industry he was awarded the IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony held at Amsterdam in 2005.

The hero behind the screen V. K. Murthy is the one who created mesmerizing effects with his cinematography received the prestigious IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. An ace Cinematographer from Bangalore was part of the Guru Dutt team. This stalwart was the cinematographer for one of the most acclaimed Kannada movie Hoovu Hannu - a directorial production of Rajendra Singh Babu and incidentally, Murthy has acted in that film too!

In 1959 Murthy shot India’s first cinemascope movie ‘Kagaz Ke Phool’ .Guru Dutt's Kaagaz Ke Phool, a movie considered his best was appreciated for its supremacy. More than anything else, what it won the most accolades for was its cinematography that created unparalleled history in the field of cinematography. It was none other than V. K. Murthy who did the magic and he even won a Filmfare Award. He repeated the feat for Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam getting the 1962 award. He never worked with any other directors as long as Dutt was alive. Some of Murthy's best work is found in Guru Dutt's movies like Pyaasa, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Aar-Paar. Murthy then worked with Kamal Amrohi on his masterpiece, Pakeezah and Razia Sultan. Post Guru Dutt, he like many of Guru Dutt team were not able to give any pinnacle work. In later years, he worked with directors like Pramod Chakravarthy (Naya Zamana, Jugnu), Shyam Benegal and Govind Nihalani (Tamas).

Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ) is one of the major Dravidian languages of India, spoken predominantly in the state of Karnataka. Kannada, whose native speakers are called Kannadigas (ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು Kannadigaru), number roughly 38 million, making it the 27th most spoken language in the world. It is one of the scheduled languages of India and the official and administrative language of the state of Karnataka.

The Kannada language is written using the Kannada script. The other native languages of Karnataka, Tulu, Kodava Takk, Beary bashe and Konkani are also written using the Kannada script.

Kannada is attested epigraphically from the mid-1st millennium CE, and literary Old Kannada flourished in the 9th to 10th century Rashtrakuta Dynasty. Contemporary Kannada literature is the most successful in India, with India's highest literary honor, the Jnanpith awards, having been conferred seven times upon Kannada writers, which is the highest for any language in India. Based on the recommendations of the Committee of Linguistic Experts, appointed by the Ministry of Culture, the Government of India officially recognised Kannada as a classical language.

ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆದ್ರೂ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ (ನಮ್ಮದೇ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ)ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾತನಾಡುವರು ಅಲ್ಪಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯವರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ .ಇದಕ್ಕೆಲ್ಲಾ ನಾವೇ ಕಾರಣ .ನಾವು ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರೆ ನಮಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ prestige ಕಡಿಮೆ ಅಂತ ಬಾವಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಂತಿದೆ .ನಾವು ಈ ಭ್ಭ್ರಾಂತಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಬರಬೇಕು .

ಇನ್ನು ನಾವು ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಲನ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು ಅಪರೂಪ .ಯಾಕೆ ಅಂದ್ರೆ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಆರೋಪ :ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಕಳಪೆ ಅಥವಾ ಉತ್ತಮ ಕಥೆ, ಸಂಗೀತ ,ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಇಲ್ಲ ಅಂತ .ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಭಂಧ ಪಟ್ಟವರು ಯೋಚಿಸಬೇಕು .ನಾವು ಬರೀ ಆರೋಪ ಮಾಡ್ತಾ ಇದಿವಿ .ಯಾಕೆ ಹೀಗೆ , ಏನು ಮಾಡಬಹುದು ಅನ್ನವುದರ ಕಡೆ ಗಮನವಿಲ್ಲ .ಇರುವ FM Radio ಚಾನೆಲ್ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ RJ ಗಳು ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಕನ್ನಡ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆ ಮಿಶ್ರಿತ .ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪಾಠ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೇಸ್ಟ್ರುಗಳ ಸಲಹೆ ಬೇಕು ಅನ್ಸುತ್ತೆ .FM ರೈನ್ಬೌ ೧೦೧.೩ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪವಾದ .ಇದೊಂದು ಸಮಾಧಾನದ ವಿಷಯ .ಇತ್ತೀಚೀನ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವರು ಕನ್ನಡ Channels ಬಂದಿರುವುದು ಭಾಷೆ ಉಳಿಯಲು - ಬೆಳೆಯಲು ಉಪಯೋಗ ಆಗುತ್ತಿದೆ .

ಇಂದು ನಾವು ಬೆಂಗಳೊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದವರ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ಇರಬೇಕಾದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇದೆ .ಇನ್ನು site ತೆಗೆದು ಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಬಹಳ ದೂರದ ಮಾತು ಆಯಿತು ನಾವ್ಯಾಕೆ ನಮ್ಮವರನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮವರಿಗಾಗಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಲು ಮೀನ ಮೇಷ ಎಣಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ನಾವು ಅಸ್ಟೊಂದು ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಿ ಗಳಾಗಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆಯಾ ? ಅಥವಾ ನಮಗೆ ನಮ್ಮೆ ಭಾಷೆ , ನೆಲದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗಮನವಿಲ್ವ ? ಅಕ್ಕ ಪಕ್ಕದ ರಾಜ್ಯದವರಿಂದ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಭಾಷಾಭಿಮಾನ ಕಲಿಯೋಣ . ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ದುಡಿದವರು ಮಡಿದವರಿಗೆ ಲೆಕ್ಕವಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರ ಕೊಡುಗೆ, ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನ ನೆನೆದು ನಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷೆ , ನೆಲವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸೋಣ.

ಇನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ -ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಂಘಗಳು ಯಾಕೆ ಬೇಕು ? ನಾವು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಲು ಅಪ್ಪ.ಅಮ್ಮ ಅಣ್ಣ ಅಕ್ಕ, ಅತ್ತೆ ಮಾಮ , ಎನ್ನಲು ಹಿಂಜರಿಕೆ ಯಾಕೆ ? ಇನ್ನು M.G.ರಸ್ತೆ , Brigade ರಸ್ತೆ , commercial ರಸ್ತೆ , ದೊಡ್ಡ ಶಾಪಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಲ್ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾತನಾದುವರನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ಓಹೋ ನಾವಿನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದಿವಿ ಅಂತ ಖಾಯಂ ಅನ್ನೋ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ .

ಇನ್ನು ಬಂದು ಹೋಗಿರುವ -ಇರುವ ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ವನ್ನು ಆಡಳಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಲು ಅದ್ಯಾವ ಗರ ಬಡಿದಿದೆಯೂ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ , ಅದೇನು ಕಷ್ಟ ? ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳೆದ ಜನರಗೆ ಬೆಲೆ ಇಲ್ಲವ .ಬೇರೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇಲ್ವಲ್ಲ .ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯ ದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಕಲಿತವರಿಗೇನು ಕೊರತೆ ಇಲ್ಲ , ಬುದ್ಧಿ ವoತರೂ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ .ಹೀಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಕನ್ನಡವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವ -ಉಳಿಸುವ , ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರಿಗೆ ಒಬ್ಬರೊನ್ನಬರಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವ ಇಚ್ಚಾ ಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಕೊರತೆ ಇರುವದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುಮಾನವಿಲ್ಲ.

ಬನ್ನಿ ಇನ್ನಾದರೂ ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತು ಕೊಳ್ಳೋಣ . ಇಲ್ಲ ವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಒಂದು ದಿನ ನಮ್ಮ ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಜನ ಜೀವಿಸಲು ಕಷ್ಟ ವಾದೀತು

Autographs of famous Karnataka personalities

When I was in my native Shivamogga(shimoga) ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ , I had a hobby of taking autograph from famous personalities.I am lucky to meet some of them in historically famous Karnartaka sangha, Shivamogga and in shimoga city .
I had to face little difficulties in taking in some of the autographs. For example from Shivaram karanth as he was little bit strict and straight forward .At times more than this lot of big personalities used to be there as usual and I was one of the very young man/boy among them .
I have a small diary in which I taken these and still I have few more other famous personalities autograph which I will post some other time.

Below are the autographs few of Karnataka's famous personalities.

೧ ). Kota Shivaram ಕಾರಂತ್ (ಶಿವರಾಮ ಕಾರಂತ್ )

Kota Shivaram Karanth (Kannada: ಕೋಟಾ ಶಿವರಾಮ ಕಾರಂತ) (October 10, 1902 - December 9, 1997) was a major Kannada writer, social activist, environmentalist, Yakshagana artist, film maker and thinker. He was described as the "finest novelist-activist of modern India by Ramachandra Guha. He was the third person among seven recipients of Jnanpith Award for Kannada the highest literary honour conferred by the Govt. of India. He was conferred Padma Bhushan by Government of India which later he returned in protest against the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi.

೨ . C Ashwath ( ಸಿ. ಅಶ್ವಥ್ )

C.Ashwath is an Indian music composer and exponent of Bhavageete ("expressive poetry") and Janapada Geete ("folk songs") in the Kannada language. He is also a singer, and sings many of his own compositions. He is credited with singing Bhavageete and Janapada Geete songs and making sure it that they reach the common man.

As both a singer and composer, he is extremely popular in Karnataka and among Kannadigas all over the world. His concert in Bangalore in 2005 was attended by a crowd of almost 100,000 people. He has also given concerts outside India, like in Melbourne for Melanudi kannada sangha and few others in UK.

He has composed music for a few movies too. Some of his notable compositions include the composition of music for Mysooru Mallige - a classic work of noted poet K.S. Narasimhaswamy and his compositions of Kannada saint Santa Shishunala Sharifa's works. He has also composed music for a very popular movie 'Matha daana' along with another popular music director V.Manohar.

೩ . Chindodi Leela (ಚಿಂದೋಡಿ ಲೀಲ)

Chindodi Leela is a prominent figure in the Kannada theatre and film industry. She has acted in numerous Kannada Movies and is an eminent Theatre artist as well, Chindodi Leela Was the President for Karnataka Drama Academy, where she served for a period of 2 years.

For her amazing contribution in the field art and theatre Chindodi Leela was honored with the prestigious Padmashree award, she has been a fine ambassador of art and a legend in true sense.She has also won many

awards like Padmashree award,Gubi Veerana Award,Shankar Gowda Award, Nataka Academy Award
,State Award......

Policesana Magalu means a policeman’s daughter.Its a typical love story in which the villain and the policeman’s a daughter fall in love and the daughter ends up shooting the villain in the end. The treatment, the dialogues, the music and the plot made it a hit. In fact it had its name in the Guinnes Book of World Records as well for having ಬೀನ್ played the maximum number of times in a single theatre called the Buddivendera Theatre.

೪ . G.S.Shivarudrappa (ಜಿ .ಎಸ್ .ಶಿವರುದ್ರಪ್ಪ)

Dr. G.S. Shivarudrappa (born February 7, 1926) is a Kannada poet, writer and researcher who was awarded the title of Rashtrakavi (ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಕವಿ ) by the Government of Karnataka on November 1, 2006.
Mr. Shivarudrappa who is a known "Navodaya" poet has made a lasting contribution to the Kannada literature.
Mr. Shivarudrappa has worked as a Kannada professor at the Maharaja College of Mysore and later at the Postgraduate Kannada Department of Bangalore University. He received the Central Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984 for his literary contribution. He has also bagged several awards including the Karnataka State Sahitya Academy and Soviet Land Nehru Award. He presided over the Akhila Bharatiya Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Davanagere in 1992.
His main collections of poems are Saamagaana, Karthika, Deepada Hejje, Preeti Illada Mele, Devashilpa, Gode, Anavarana, Tereda Daari and Kaadina Kattalalli. (The Hindu, 02' Nov 2006).

೫ .K.S. Nisaar Ahmed (ಕೆ .ಎಸ್ .ನಿಸಾರ್ ಅಹಮದ್ )

K.S. Nissar Ahmed (born February 5, 1936) is a prominent Indian poet and writer in Kannada language. He is a post-graduate in Geology, worked as an Assistant Geologist in The Mysore Mines and Geology at Gulbarga before coming in touch with Kuvempu and was invited to the Kannada poet's meet during dasara festival in 1959.

He worked as a lecturer in geology in Central College, Bangalore and then in chitradurga .

Later he taught in the Sahyadri First Grade College in Shimoga for two terms during 1967-72 and
1975-1978.
He is better known for Nityotsava . In 1978, when the first audio cassette in Kannada light music was released, the song Nityotsava became popular, not only because of the tune, but also because of the lyrics.

೬ . Patil Puttappa (ಪಾಟೀಲ್ ಪುಟ್ಟಪ್ಪ )

Famous and active journalist , who can be called as a known as Encycloedia. A very good writer, speaker who has won numerous awards .When ever there is a discrimination or injustice in karnataka he will be there even at this old age who is around 90 years young.!

He did completed higher studies in journalism long back from foreign university when kannada journalism was still in infant stage. Many of the modern day journalists,writers can follow him to become successful .

Babukodi Venkataramana Karanth (19 September 1929 - 1 September 2002) was a renowned film and theatre personality from India. Throughout his life he was director, actor and musician of modern Indian theatre and one of the pioneers of Kannada and Hindi new wave cinema.

He was an alumnus of the National School of Drama (1962) and later, its director. He has directed many successful plays and has directed award winning Kannada movies. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri.

B Jayashree is the grand-daughter of Gubbi Veeranna, the architect and the life force of the celebrated Gubbi Company. In the past five decades, B. Jayashree has evolved into one of the best theatre artists in Karnataka. Since 1976, she has been the Creative Director of Spandana and has directed and acted in numerous plays under the Spandana banner.

The awards conferred on her include the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy’s Safdar Hashmi Award, Karnataka Natak Academy Award (1996), Aryabhata and Udaya TV’s best playback singer award, Central Sangeet-Natak Akademi Award in 1997, Karnataka Excellence Award, Kalpana Chawla award, best supporting Actress award for her role in the feature film “Nagamandala” from the Karnataka Govt., Kannada Rajyothsava Award, B.V.Karanth Smrithi Sanman Puraskar, Essel Karnataka’s Best Art and Culture Award, Doctorate (D.Lit) from Karnataka Open University, Mysore among others.

೧೨. ನಟ ಶ್ರೀಧರ್ (Shridhar) :

Shridhar is a highly respected hero in Kannada cinema. He was introduced to the Kannada screen as a hero by the renowned director late Sri.Puttanna Kanagal, with the film Amritaghalige. Since then he has acted in more than 60 films and has won many awards for his performances. He has the rare distinction of acting in five languages viz., Kannada Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

He won the Karnataka State Government's Best Actor Award for his sterling performance as the saint-poet Sharief, in the film "Santa Shishunala Shariefa". This film also won the prestigious Nargis Dutt award from the Central Government.

13 . Jayamala (ಜಯಮಾಲ) :

Jayamala, is a kannada (Indian) film actress. Her famous films are Giri Kanye, Shankar Guru, Aaj Ka Ye Ghar, Sampoorna Teerth Yatra, Balak, Spy in Rome, Love and Murder and Harishchandra Taramati. She has also produced a movie Aaj Ka Ye Ghar.

Jayamala is a multifaceted personality in the Kannada film industry having been a leading lady in the eighties and later turned producer making many award-winning artistic films.
Jayamala has acted in several movies in Kannada, Tulu, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. She has acted with several big Kannada stars like Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh, Rajkumar, Shankar Nag and Prabhakar. She had several hits like Shankar Guru, Giri kanye , etc.
Her first production venture Thaayi Saaheba was directed by Girish Kasaravalli and it won a National award. Jayamala received a special jury award for her brilliant performance in the film. She has also produced a children's film Thuttoori which won both National and State Government awards.
As a treasurer in the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, the actress has taken active interest in many activities of the Kannada film producers association. In 2008 Jayamala became the first woman president of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC).
Jayamala created history of sorts when she became the only actress in the Indian film industry to be conferred a doctorate for writing a thesis, She wrote a thesis on the rehabilitation of rural woman in Karnataka. The thesis required her to tour many places in Karnataka and also scrutinise many documents. The doctorate was conferred by the Bangalore University on 18 January 2008 and presented by former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.

Hosur Narasimhaiah ( ಡಾ. ಹೆಚ್.ನರಸಿಂಹಯ್ಯ) 6 June 1921 — 31 January 2005) was a Physicist ,educator,freedom fighter and rationalist from karnataka . He was popularly known as HN. He was conferred padma Bhushana by Government of India in 1985.

He taught from 1946 until 1957 when he proceeded to Columbus , Ohio to get his PhD degree in Nuclear Physics from Ohio State University (1960). During 1961-72 he led National College, Basavanagudi, Bangalore, as its principal. During 1967-68, as a Fulbright Scholar , Dr. Narasimhaiah taught as a Visiting Professor at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. In 1962, he founded the Bangalore Science Forum, which conducts a weekly series of public lectures on science topics.

As the Vice Chancellor of the Bangalore University from 1973-77, he introduced psychology, social work, drama, music and dance as subjects. He went on to serve the State Legislative Assembly; and in 1984, received the Padma Bhushan from the Indian Government. At the time of his death in January 31, 2005, Dr. Narasimhaiah was the President of the National Education Society.

A Visit to Hampi

ಹಂಪೆ - ಒಂದು ನೋಟ

Last week on saturday , 5th December I had been to Hampi (ಹಂಪೆ) with few of my family members.

First we went to Bellary as our relatives are there.We left Bellary around 9:45AM. Its almost 2 hours journey to Hampi from Bellary .As heavy goods vehicle and mining vehicles travel in that road, its pathetic.But if you have patience and when you reach Hampi you will forget the bad experience of road journey..I had plans of visiting since many years , but became reality thanks to my wife Shobha . Hampi is a beautiful and well maintained place. Thats why its a Worlds heritage site of India along with other known places of world.

But in Hampi there are no good hotels except the one which is maintained by Karnataka government. I want to share one experience, I met a foreign visitor from Austria. When I asked him about his experience in Hampi he really appreciated about India and Hampi. But he pointed out clearly with a laugh told here auto drivers, vendors ,others charge extra amount as soon as they come to know that we are from abroad.Hope concerned will look into this to save Indians image across India and globe.

Of course change is life, we have to accept change.But this does not mean we have to forget a basic concept of this universe and nature of earth.If we go against nature, it will show adverse effects without any hesitation . In recent times as industries developed, pollution has increased, As population increased users of 2 and 4 wheelers have reduced as a result noise pollution, and air pollution automatically is raising.

Everywhere awareness is increasing day by day saying that we should not cut trees, even if we cut its inevitable we have to plant new ones, we should not use paper unnecessarily as we have to cut trees to manufacture paper, we have to use plastics less and even if we use that should be having certain thickness as it may remain in soil for a long time which is harmful.

Kannada Rajyotsava (Kannada: ಕನ್ನಡ ರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವ), or the Karnataka Formation Day (literally "Birth of the Kannada State") is celebrated on 1 November every year. This was the day in 1956 when all the Kannada speaking regions of south India were merged to form the state of Karnataka.

On this day of November first in 1956 (೧೯೫೬) Mysore state, comprising most of the area of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore, was merged with the Kannada speaking areas of the Bombay and Madras presidencies, as also of the principality of Hyderabad, to create a unified Kannada-speaking subnational entity. The newly unified state initially retained the name "Mysore", which was that of the erstwhile princely state which formed the core of the new entity. .....

Brief History About Kannada Rajyotsava

The state of Mysore was created taking into fold various parts of the region, which were ruled by kings. Several districts in, now called North Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka were dissolved in the new state. The new state was named after Mysore, which by itself was a princely state.

People of North and Hyderabad area did not accept the name Mysore. People of this region were demanding a change in the name. After prolonged debate the name of the state was changed to Karnataka on November 1, 1973. ( ನವೆಂಬರ್ ೧ , ೧೯೭೩ )

Spoke live in FM Rainboow (101.3FM) in dinner time progaramme on monday and shared view on Ganesha Festival.

Few of us keep Gowri idol also along with Ganesha at the time of festival.

Whatever the opinion Ganesha is simply moving ahead travelling on his own vehicle Rat(mouse).....!

Gangubai Hangal was born in Dharwad to Chikkurao Nadiger, an agriculturist and Ambabai, a vocalist of Carnatic music. 'Gangubai', as she was called in music circles, received only elementary education and her family shifted to Hubli in 1928.Initially, she learned classical music from Krishnacharya and Dattopant Desai before studying under Sawai Gandharva, a respected guru.She married Gururao Kaulgi, a Brahmin lawyer, at the age of 16. Her family was of low social status and for women of her generation singing was not considered appropriate employment; Gangubai struggled against this prejudice and made a career.

Gangubai Hangal served as honorary music professor of the Karnatak University. She was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honor, in 2002. She gave her last concert in March 2006 to mark her 75th career year. She had overcome bone marrow cancer in 2003, and died of cardiac arrest on 21 July 2009 in Hubli, where she resided. Krishna Hangal, Gangubai's daughter and accompanist, died from cancer in 2004, aged 75.

Gangubai hangal expired today in Hubli. She is survived by two sons.

It was difficult to understand him in the beginning especially whenever he was hungry or at time of his sleep.

We can see lot of changes in the mean time. He started speaking couple of words like thata(grandfather),ajji(grandmother),appaji,(daddy),amma(mother),atte,myanni(for maggi),car, socks,ppa(for chikkappa & doddappa)......

Now a days he wants to do few activites or things on his own like wearing slipper -shoes,eating ....

General election in India , 2009

India is currently holding general elections,the largest democratic election in the world to the 15th Lok Sabha in five phases on April 16, April 22-April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 13, 2009.

According to the Indian Constitution, elections in India for the Lok Sabha (the lower house) must be held at least every five years under normal circumstances. With the last elections held in 2004, the term of the 14th Lok Sabha expires on June 1, 2009.

The election is conducted by the Election Commission of India, which estimates an electorate of 714 million voters, an increase of 43 million over the 2004 election. During the budget presented in February 2009, Rs.1,120 Crores (€176 million) was budgeted for election expenses

Compared to last decade and couple of years back , there is a lot of changes in terms of Election campaign, disclosure of the assets of the person contesting the election, eduacted class contesting election, awareness among people has increased..

probable persons who can become Prime minister are Manmohan Singh of Congress, L.K.Advani of BJP, Mayawati of BSP...

Although there is couple of violence incidents here and there overall a peacefull election so far thanks to People, Election commission of india, Security, the government .....

Now a days after the introduction of Electronic Voting machines there is almost no chance of fake voting which is a very good change

One more interesting this is although people have enrolled their name & altough many of them had voiter id card could not vote in first two phases as their name is not appearing in the list may be due to lack of planning or discrepency..

When I went for voting i had to search my name for more than 30 minutes before voting..Finally got relieved when i saw my name & voted with id proof(we can vote even if have dont have Election id card \with ID
Proof such as PAN card, Driving licence, Bank passbook with photo card, ID card s given by college.....around 20 such ids so that we can use our power to elect our own leaders.

Nice to know software engineers, educated class people started contesting elections which is a good sign and from whom we can expect good governement and less corruption..

Hope India will see much more progress in coming years..

Coorg Trip

we colleagues had been to a Trip recently to Coorg,Nagarahole,Kushalnagar,Mysore and few other near by places.

Actually our colleagues had decided to hire vehicle but without driver so that we only could drive & enjoy as per our trip.Trip was awesome and memorable in many ways..may be free from regular office work, enjoying nature & outing,pulling others leg, nice drive,enjoyed friends vehicle drive .............

We were able to see a beautiful , nice morning view from Raja Seat in Coorg,excellent golden temple in Kushalnagar,Nice bath in Irpu Falls,a natioal park in Nagarahole.Nice swim and water play in Dubare Forest (but we could not go for Elephant safari as it had closed at 12:30PM),Mysore palace along with food in Mcdonalds & KFC..

Trip was memorable in couple ways as for the first time I saw actaually witnessed travelling in a vehicle reaching upto 160km/Hr on Road , thanks to nice highway although its little risky to reach with that speed ,unless anybody knows driving well & has a nice control over it, thanks to Sanjay.Then Nadeem who knew basics of 4 four wheeler driving, driving with confidence , Sahoo with nice questions & answer session, Shafi for his awesome talk, Sam for his full energy filled inspiration to all, Shashir from his unique style,Pravash with nice causal talk to all of us & especially with shafi ..!

We enjoyed the trip overall..! :-)

From my child hood that is from my primary School i started collecting Stamps.Later as i grew up started collecting variety of coins of our own country India & abroad. In recent years I started collecting foreign notes(Currecny) whenever I get an opportunity ..

Although it requires time & patience and of course interest to post detailed blog of these collections , i thought to post a blog to start with a couple of foreign notes.

I used to ask my close friends if they have these notes or coins ,if they have visted western counties or any country.I am lucky to collect some of them from friend Sandeep who had visted Bangaldesh, Nigeria couple of years back & my younger brother Arvind who got an opportunity to visit US,Korea,Hongkong,UK..

Today I had been to Bannerghatta national parkwith family members.Here are some of the photos and details..

Bannerghatta National Park is situated 22 km south of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The journey to the park takes nearly an hour from Bangalore. This hilly place is the home for one of the richest natural, zoological reserves. The 25,000 acre (101 km²) zoological park makes this a major tourist attraction of Bangalore.

There is a small museum in the zoo which showcases zoological exhibits. The zoo, which is a major attraction in this area, also has a reptile park and a small theatre.. The Zoo closes on Tuesday (weekly Holiday)

The zoo has separate charges for weekdays and weekends (or Holidays). The prices currently for A Grand Safari — of Lions, Tigers & Herbivorus costsRs. 100 on regular days and Rs. 125 on weekends (and other holidays) where as, to move around the zoo would cost you Rs. 25.00. The Tiger and Lion safari is the most interesting and one can avail tickets only for that at a lower cost.

The entire month of May has holiday fares as that is the time when children in India have summer holidays.

When I spoke to many people from United states right from campaigning till his election to President I got varied opinions and respnse like , politicians give lot of assurances and they dont do as in other countries , few pepole were least bothered about the person whoever is elected, some are having hopes that he will do good job..

Obama has lot of challenges ahead as Unites states as US is going through tough time in terms of financial crisis.Many country men are thinking that he may put some restrictions on outsourcing job to other countries..

Lets wait and watch as time has come to see his power & his dreams for his country ...

DR.C.R.Chandrashekar a Psychiatrist with a difference..

Dr.C.R.Chandrashekhar, a Famous Psychiatrist from Kanataka has turned 60 on Friday . To mark this day "Kannada Vaidya Saahitya Parishat "has conducted a function yesterday in Bangalore.

I got an opportunity to attend this useful Felicitation programme yesterday evening.

Lot of Doctors from all over Karnataka had come to attend this function along with lot of fans, writers and people from all walks.

Dr.C.R.C as he known to readers is born on December 12,1948, in small town of Channapattana in a middle class family.

He is known as the first person to write about psychiatry in Kannada.Till now he has written 159 books.! Out of which 107 books are related to Psychiatry.

I was surprised to know that his books have been translated to few languages like Urdu,English & Gujrathi also.

He is not only a Doctor,Psychiatrist,also a good Speaker who has given a lot of programmes in Radio & Television. He is very simple living and high thinking person.

Today we can see people suffering from depression,tension & other diseases related to mind.

Psychiatrists are playing a major role in curing these diseases through medicines & counselling.

It was a memorable function as lot of books related to health,sex,Ayurveda,Homoeopathy were on display and sale.And there was a discussion & lecture by eminent personalites.

Today(On 6th February 2011) to my Suprprise I got an opportunity to meet and speak to DR.CRC in 77th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana,which held in Bangalore ..I could spend couple of minutes with him..He is so great ,yet so simple..He is Simple living high thinking person.

BANGALORE BOOK FESTIVAL 2008

Recently I had been to " Bangalore Book festival" along with my wife, son and sister which held till 23rd November.

It was very good ..Books of different languages like Kannada,English,Hindi,Telugu,Malayalam,urdu,Tamil,Bengali and many other languages ........... were on display & sales.Many publishers,distributors had displayed books of different writers and on variey of topics from Literature,politics,sports,stories,autobiography,religion,health,wealth,mind,soul... Really it was like a festival for readers & of course for sellers. There was a huge crowd.I could see people buying many books at a time...

We also purchased few books.

Now a days we can see people talking about the downward trend in reading habits in people after the invention of modern media like Television (TV) & Internet.But this has proved wrong..!

I thought untill good writers are there ,untill readers are there no media can replace books which is having their own advantages compared to TV and internet

This type of book festivals should be conducted atleast once in every 6 months not only in Big city like bangalore but also in other districts also so that it can reach all places & even to a common man....

Salumarada Thimmakka - The woman, who has done a lot to preserve the environment

Today I got the opportunity to meet Salumarada Thimmakka in Vibhutipuramatha near Basavanagara,Bangalore.

Today she was given with prestigeous ,"Suvarna shree " award for her work from Vibhutipura math.

Thimmaka is so simple and when I aksed for a photo with her she told , "aparoopada ajji alwa "(I am rare grandmother thats why know)..

SALUMARADA THIMMAKKA, (Kannada: ಸಾಲುಮರದ ತಿಮ್ಮಕ್ಕ) the woman who planted banyan trees as her life's mission along the Bangalore-Nelamangala highway, is certainly not a household name in the "happening" metropolis. For, she went about her selfless work for 45 years without any fuss or publicity. And, of course, she never called herself an environmental activist, though she planted and painstakingly watered and nurtured some 400-odd trees, along with her husband, Chikkaiah.

This illiterate woman, who has done more to preserve the environment than many self-styled and seminar-oriented environmentalists, has donated much of the funds she has received as awards to a trust specifically for setting up a maternity home in her village, Hulikal near Kudur, a short distance from Bangalore.
Thimmakka is a storehouse of knowledge on environment and knows all there is to know about agriculture. This is not unusual in agricultural communities, where the woman not only takes care of the household but also plays an active part in the entire agricultural process. Ask Thimmakka about trees, and she will name some 25 species in one go, and will also tell you why they have to be planted.

But what egged Thimmakka on to take on the extraordinary task of planting 400 trees?
"I longed to have children, but couldn't. My husband felt that we should make up for it by `parenting' trees. He believed that it was a work of great punya, and would do us good. He used to tell me it would also fulfil my desire for motherhood. Believe me, nobody ever told us to do this. It's our own thinking that put us on to it," says Thimmakka, explaining the circumstances.

But this meant that Thimakka and her husband Chikkaiah had to walk about three kilometres from their home in Huligal to the highway, along which they had decided to plant trees. They couldn't afford to buy saplings either. So, they cut branches off banyan trees and planted them in a row. During the first year, they successfully planted 10. But their task did not end there. The couple drew water from the village well, trudged the three-kilometre distance, and watered the young plants. "I would carry two pitchers, one on my waist and one on my head, and my husband would carry one on his head." They did this round the year, except during rainy season.

Moreover, protected the growing plants from grazing cattle by fencing them with thorny shrubs. They actually felt like anxious parents, until the plants took root and began to grow! "We planted more, increasing the numbers to 15, 25, and more." Neither Thimmakka nor her husband ever found the need to keep count of the trees they planted. It was only after she got recognition that the Government started counting them.
Though Thimmakka's vision is blurred, she still has no problem in recognising things and objects close to her.
She has been given a tape-recorder and a radio by two organisations, which honoured her some time ago. While she uses the radio frequently, she does not use the tape-recorder, for she does not know how to operate it. ``If you want you can play it,'' she told this correspondent. The tape-recorder is used only when someone who knows how to play it, visits her.

Why did she plant trees? ``See for yourself. So many birds eat the fruits of my trees and build nests on them. The leaves that fall become manure. And, in summer, they provide shade to tired people.''
Life had never been easy for Thimmakka. Her husband had a tiny piece of land on which they grew ragi. It was barely sufficient for them. She worked in fields, carried stones to construction sites, dug drains, besides other backbreaking jobs. All that she earned was taken away by her mother-in-law.

Towards the late '80s, her life grew more complicated when her mother-in-law had a stroke and brother-in-law took seriously ill. "It was a traumatic phase of my life. I had to give them bath, eed them, and even clean their shit," she recalls. After prolonged suffering, both passed away. Soon, Chikkaiah also took ill. Cousins came and took him away on the pretext of nursing him to health, though all the while, they had intentions of claiming the small piece of land he owned.

Chikkaiah also died soon. "I felt I had been stripped off my clothes," she recalls, tears in her eyes. "There was nobody for me, no money, nothing..." Worse still, her dilapidated hut began to crumble. There was no roof over her head and no walls around her. All she had was a gunnysack to lie on. The few vessels that she had, she gave them away to her neighbour. "This Sankranti, it will be 13 years since my husband passed away. I haven't planted a single sapling since then."

It was not as if she was too depressed to continue the task, but just that there were too many practical problems. There was nobody to help her cut branches and plant them, and with what little she earned, it was impossible to spend money on plants as well.

The story of the couple's 45-year effort, but was far-sighted enough to write out applications to the departments concerned, both at the Central and State level. Several awards and recognition came her way. "I have a whole lot of prizes, I have no place to keep them. I have put them all in a plastic bag and kept them in the attic," says Thimmakka in a matter-of-fact tone. "Life is better than before. Now, at least, I have a roof above my head.

KEMMANNUGUNDI TRIP

I had been to Kemmanugundi trip for 2 days along with my colleagues last week.

It was a memorable in many ways..may be relaxation from office work,tension free,enjoying nature in our Malnad region.

We left office early morning in Tempo traveller..Journey was awesome except driver who was little bit reserve & not so cooperative..

Kemmanugundi is in Chickmagalore district,a place full of greenery with full of Coffee plant & a Ghat section.Hardly we see people there..As now it is winter it was very cold in Night & early morning.. " I found two main things which may be the reason its attracting less people now a days,road from Kemmanugundi to HEBBE Falls is Worst..We have to hire a Jeep again for that 13 Kms journey to reach that falls for that we have to atleast Rs 100 per head..And one more thing is that there is only 1 hotel ..!" that too we have to give order in advance for dinner or Lunch.then only they will prepare.But Cost wise it was very good..

I was wondering why Goverment is not taking much interest in this , when they can make this place more Tourist attractive & can get more money to Tourism Department of Karnataka..

We also visted kalhat giri falls,where we had a nice bath with play in fresh & cold Water.After that we had Darshan of Shree Veerabhadra Swamy..Although we went to Bababudan giri mountain(Hill) which is the highest mountain Karanataka we could not enter Temple & Masjid which is there due to ongoing work which will take another 4 months to open..We felt sad as we went with great expectation to bababudangiri..

On the way to Trip one of my colleague who is a very good guitarist entertained us a lot.We were so tired on the way back to Kammangundi from Hebbe falls we fall asleep without Dinner unless a person from Hotel came & knocked door with nice Dinner..On the way back we had nice dinner in Hasan at night..Our trip was memorable as we enjoyed a Nature with full of greenery,Coffe plants,shared jokes,enjoyed nice photography,pulled others legs....Hope people will take some time visit this place to keep themselves fresh and active..
